who would've thought it'd be four women
as of yesterday, traveling by bus, plane, and train through ireland was no longer cutting it.
we needed one more mode of transportation to make our story complete.
we left the home of the lynch's (galway) around 4:30 yesterday and hopped on a bus north towards castlebar, and would then catch one on to westport. but arriving in castlebar, we said screw the bus (we incorrectly thought we had to wait an hour and half), and noting that the distance to westport was only 18km, we knew the time had come...
we got our thumbs ready.
besides, 18km isn't that far, we reasoned. we had to get there, and what better way than relying on the old fashioned way of traveling.
i just never thought it would be old women who picked us up.
with the sky darkening, and a little over 3 miles into our jounrey, an older woman and her daughter pulled over and said they'd take us half way. delighted, and extremely thankful, we jumped in. she said that she wouldn't have stopped for just a "fella" but she said she felt bad that a girl had walk all the way. they took us about 3 more miles before dropping us at pub along the way. unforunately there was a private party going on, so we couldnt pop in for a pint. after waiting for a bit, we kept going, and within 10 minutes another pair of lovely older women pulled over and picked us up, saying they were on their way to westport and would drop us at an b&b. a and i couldnt help but smile and hold back laughs at our hilarious good fortune of old women picking up some straggling kids along the road.
once out of the car, high-fives flying, we decided that hitch-hiking kicks ass.
and that old irish women kick ass even more.
who would have thought.
